The following directions represent the quickest route to Dunolly from Melbourne.
1.
Take the Calder Freeway (M79) towards Bendigo. This can be accessed from the Tullamarine Freeway or the Western Ring Road. There are prominent green signs on both roads showing the way to Bendigo.
2.
The Calder Freeway ends just after bypassing Kyneton and becomes a single carriageway highway (A79). Stay on the highway and pass through the towns of Malmsbury, Taradale and Harcourt. |
3.
About 5 kilometers after Harcourt, just after the overpass over the railway line, take the left turn towards Maldon. This is called Fogartys Gap Road. |
4.
Follow Fogartys Gap Road all the way to the end and merge left onto the Bendigo - Maldon Road (C283). |
5.
Follow the Bendigo - Maldon Road for about 2 kilometers then turn right onto the Truck Route (C282) to Cairn Curran at “Porcupine Village”. |
6.
Follow the Truck Route until it meets the Bridgewater – Maldon Road (C282) at a “T” intersection. Turn right towards Bridgewater and Dunolly. |
7.
From this point onwards there are prominent green signs showing the way to Dunolly (approx 35km). |
8.
When you reach Dunolly, stay on the main road (Broadway) and drive through the centre of the town heading towards Moliagul and St Arnaud. Footer’s Mansion is on the right just before the railway crossing, about 500 metres from the centre of town. There are also several blue signs in town showing the way to Footer’s Mansion. |
Many of our guests prefer to visit some of the other historic townships along the way such as Castlemaine, Maldon or Maryborough. For example, if you wish to visit Maldon, stay on the Bendigo - Maldon Road at step 5 above. This will take you into the centre of Maldon. When you leave Maldon, take the road to Bridgewater and resume the directions at step 7 above.
